Out of Database Disk Space!

October 27, 2009 Leave a comment

SharePoint only throws a standard exception when it encounters problems because of a lack of disk space for the database. To enable better error messages when diagnosing a problem, you can edit the WEB.CONFIG file as shown in this excellent blog posting (Blog and Toons of SharePoint) –

SharePoint Error Messages

If the database is running out of disk space, SharePoint updates begin to fail. We noticed that creating folders in a document library, and trying to delete entries failed first. Our problem was that the default disk location for new databases in SQL Server was defaulted to the wrong drive. To check this setting, open the SQL Server Enterprise Manager, select the database instance, right mouse and select Properties.
